Democratic Practice: Metrics for Power | March 19 - 21, 2025

We are excited to invite you to Democratic Practice: Metrics for Power, Agency and Democracy, a three-day academic conference hosted by the Practicing Democracy Project and Civic Power Lab at Harvard Kennedy School. This event, coordinated in partnership with the Organizing Lab of the State Power Fund, Pro-Democracy Campaign and Democracy and Power Innovation Fund, will take place from March 19 through March 21, 2025, in Cambridge, Massachusetts. We are operating in extremely hostile conditions for pluralistic, multiracial democracy to thrive. The current “practice of politics” prioritizes market efficiencies, treating citizens as consumers to be “marketed to.” The consequence is fertile ground for cynicism and disengagement of everyday people from public life. If we were to make intentional choices to center people-oriented, majoritarian, broad-based and agency-centered democratic practice, what would be possible?
